10 Ideas to kick away boredom for a Happy Home Stay Vacation

The outbreak of the most recent pandemic Covid-19 has locked down all of us, whether we are stamped an official quarantine or not.

It left us all with an unanticipated and an unplanned vacation minus the perks of going out. “Stuck at home 24×7” is what it is. Whether you like it or not, whether you’re prepared or not, whether you’re going to enjoy it or not, there’s no other choice but to be stuck at home.

So, why not make it a happy stay at home vacation!? And all those who are finding it hard to rest their bottoms at home and roaming around recklessly, give these ideas a try.

Let’s figure out options which are practical and satisfying in the end.

1) DEEP CLEAN YOUR HOUSE

Haven’t you postponed this long enough with the reasonable excuse – “No Time”?

While the Nature takes its time to self-clean and heal, let’s rejuvenate our homes too.

I know it’s time consuming and involves a lot of hard-work. But, little by little everyday wouldn’t add much stress and the satisfaction it brings at the end is going to be worth all the effort.

Here’s a simple schedule you can follow. Modify it to suit your needs best. Sweep at least once a day.

Day 1 – Decluttering – Discard the expired products. Decorate the shelves with liners and arrange back your stuff.
Depending on the number of cupboards/shelves you have, you can extend the number of days.
Take all the time you need to relax.
If you have kids at home, take another day to handle all that tiny clutter.

Day 2 – Clean the stove & sink. Those old & greasy stains need some super cleansing power. So, squeeze a lemon and some liquid soap, wait for a while and it’ll make your scrubbing job less cumbersome.

Day 3 – Remember the book shelf which has been neglected for a good number of days/months/years? Yep! It needs one round of dusting and a neat arrangement. Who knows it might trigger a new desire to binge read?

Day 4 – Washrooms! Such a back-ache!
Scrub scrub scrub and just get it done-dana-done.

Day 5 – Mopping once a week isn’t too bad. If you’re an OCD person, get back to work. 😛

Day 6 – Put those dirty curtains in the washing machine, and let the windows, grills and meshes sparkle. Don’t forget the fans.

Day 7 – RELAX! You deserve it.

2) CLEAN OUT YOUR CLOSET

If you’re a woman, you know you have nothing to wear but there’s a massive collection in there – unused/ no longer used/ crumpled up. Pull them all out.
Stuff a donation bag with clothes that you don’t use or need anymore.
Line up your shelves with solid bright or light florals, and arrange your clothes neatly.
Self-appreciate by giving yourself a pat.

3) IRON YOUR CLOTHES

Since you’ve anyhow pulled out your closet, set aside what needs to be ironed. Press & fold and put them back to where they belong.

4) DRESS UP AND ENJOY A DATE NIGHT

With a nearly arranged closet, I’m sure you can’t wait to dress up and go partying. Why wait till the whole world wakes up? Have a date night at home. Here’s a wonderful idea for a home date night.

5) COOK YOUR FAVOURITE MEAL

What’s a date night without a scrumptious meal? It doesn’t have to be exotic. Be it sautéd veggies with chicken roast, or plain maggi with a cheese omelette, you can always create magic with the regular stuff you have at hand.

Alone at home? Make this delicious meal your companion tonight, and enjoy every bit of it.

6) TRY A NEW DISH

Bored of cooking the same old meals in the regular style? Spice up your life and treat your cravings by trying something new. YouTube is at your service.

7) TAKE UP A DIY PROJECT

Always had some projects in mind but didn’t give it a thought? Now is the time!

  • Build a mini garden for your living room
  • Build a new bookshelf to keep up with your collection
  • Try your hand at painting or art work (You can follow my art on Instagram)
  • Fix a broken tap
  • Take up a sewing project (I stitched a mask, and you can follow my simple instructions here.)
  • Start journaling

8) GIVE YOURSELF A LONG REFRESHING PEDICURE

All you need is a bucket, hot water, salt, soap and scrub. If you have lemon and glycerin, that’s an added advantage.
Your feet will be thankful and your mind will be at peace.

9) DEEP CONDITION YOUR HAIR

Purge away all the accumulated dirt in your greasy hair and give your dull, boring hair a shiny spark.
Tip: Rinse your hair with hibiscus leaves and it’ll leave your hair feeling soft and smooth.

10) APPLY A NATURAL FACE MASK

Video calling a friend? Brighten up your face with an instant face mask using natural ingredients like milk, turmeric, lemon and Aloe Vera.
Don’t forget to shower everyday. 😉
