Living in the Overflow

Overflow isn’t measured in money.

Would you call it overflowing when your savings account is bursting at the seams? Or, would you call it overflowing when your heart is generous in the little you have?

You might have a safety locker while a child has a tiny kiddy bank. If you have to put in the same amount of money in both, which is going to overflow soon? It’s never about the quantity, it’s about the heart.

Overflowing = Being Generous

Overflow isn’t measured in numbers.

Would you call it overflowing when the church is full and has an extra seating with a projector setup on the outside because it’s jam-packed inside? Or, would you call it overflowing when the church goes out from the building and into the streets to spread love?

A community doesn’t have to be big to go out and help the poor. It needs a serving attitude and a loving heart.

Overflowing = Empathizing

Overflow isn’t measured in quality.

Would you call it overflowing when your plate is brimming with a variety of delicacies? Or, would you call it overflowing when you have a hungry stranger seated at your table?

A family doesn’t need a pot full of biryani (a shout-out to all the Hyderabadis) to feed a hungry person. There’s somebody on the streets, eagerly waiting to at least grab a portion of stale food from the garbage to satiate their hunger.

Overflowing = Feeding the Hungry

Overflow isn’t measured in quantity.

Would you call it overflowing when your wardrobe is chock-full of clothes? Or, would you call it overflowing when you donate some clothes to the underprivileged?

Don’t we all have clothes or shoes that we don’t use anymore, lying in our closet?

Overflowing = Serving the poor

Overflow isn’t measured in fans and followers.

Would you call it overflowing when you have a thousand friends on Facebook or a million followers on Instagram, whom you don’t even know face to face? Or, would you call it overflowing when you’re available for a lonely friend who needs your tangible presence and warmth?

Acquiring fans and followers might make you a celebrity, but it’ll leave you in a private bubble.

Overflowing = Being Available

Overflow isn’t measured in tasks.

Would you call it overflowing when you’re juggling with a lot of tasks at hand? Or, would you call it overflowing when you take time for your family and friends?

Giving yourself some breathing space rejuvenates your mind. Spending time with loved ones helps in developing long lasting relationships.

Overflowing = Spending Quality Time

Overflow isn’t measured in pastime.

Would you call it overflowing when you’re free to spend your time on Netflix and popcorn or playing games or scrolling through social media? Or, would you call it overflowing when you take up the little tasks in life which matter and make a difference?

What you do with your time matters. Taking up a DIY project or cleaning out your garage or rearranging your closet are some things which make you feel accomplished.

Overflowing = Accomplishing little tasks

Overflow isn’t measured in people.

Would you call it overflowing when you’re dating multiple people simultaneously? Or, would you call it overflowing when you find multiple ways to cherish the one you love the most?

You might have too many people in your life. Staying truthful, honest and loyal to the ones who matter brings peace, love and endless joy.

Overflowing = Cherishing

Overflow is spilling over

Not everyone is gifted with all the talents, but we’re all gifted in something. Are we exhausting our talents selfishly and letting our cup run dry? Or, are we letting it flow freely?

Overflow is spilling it over – over to people who need it. It is Love.

Overflow = Love

On this Thanksgiving Day, lets take up this challenge of overflowing, and be open conduits of blessing, in our own way.

Who’s ready for a spillover? I am! Are you?
